Spectroscopic Mode

Two low resolution gratings are provided, one spanning 7.4-13.5 µm (“the 10 mm atmospheric window”) and the other spanning 15.7-25.3 µm (“the 20 µm atmospheric window”) in a single setting.

A high resolution grating is provided in each of these atmospheric windows, with the gratings being adjustable to center on the detector any wavelength within that window.

The resolving power for the low resolution gratings is 175 at the center of the 10 µm atmospheric window and 120 at the center of the 20 µm atmospheric window. The resolving power for the high resolution gratings is 1313 in the 10 µm atmospheric window and 891 at the center of the 20 µm atmospheric window.

Long Slits (19" lenght) of 9 different widths located in the slit wheel can be selected depending on the wavelength, resolution and conditions of the observation.
